The Craft

They begin where the Kauna grass grows - along the marshes and waterways of Manipur in Northeast India - and they end in the hands of farming community artisans who have been making things from this grass for generations. The embroidery comes last: stitched by the same person, in thread chosen by that person, in a composition that reflects their own sense of what looks right. This bag is not mass-produced. It is made.
