Kauna grass is harvested annually from the wetlands of Manipur, in India's Northeast, by the same farming communities who weave it. The weaving and embroidery are entirely hand-executed - no templates, no mechanical looms, no automated stitching. The floral motif on this bag was stitched from memory and instinct, by an artisan who has done this kind of work for as long as they can remember. The material is sustainable not as a claim but as a consequence of what it is: natural grass, grown back every season.
